GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED an Eastern European man they suspect arrived in Ireland to carry out a gangland murder.
The man was detained alongside two Irish men after members of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau raided a premises in the Huntstown area of west Dublin this morning.
Two Irishmen were also arrested in the raid; one for possession of €5,000 worth of cocaine and the other on conspiracy to commit murder.
Sources have told TheJournal.ie that the arrested man is suspected of being an assassin for hire and that one avenue of investigation is that he was hired by the Kinahan cartel to target a number of Hutch gang members.
A garda spokesman said: “As part of an operation targeting organised crime Gardaí have arrested three men.
“Gardaí from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau supported by members of the Special Crime Task Force, Emergency Response Unit and Armed Support Unit carried out a planned search of a premises in west Dublin this morning shortly before 11am.
Two of the men arrested, both late 50s, are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.The third man, early 30s, was arrested following the discovery of cocaine with an estimated value of €5,000, pending analysis. He is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
